Met Sandlot 2012 Rules

ONLY wood bats may be used. All composite bats may be used with the exception of the half metal/half wood(metalwood) bats. Baum bats are NOT allowed.

All changes will be made through the home plate umpire.

There will be no time limits.

Games will be played to completion, unless ended by darkness or loss of field permit, in which case a TIE will be ruled.

A game is “official” after the visiting team has completed 15 offensive outs (If home team is leading), otherwise after five complete innings.

A Ten-Run (10) mercy rule will be enacted after 4 1/2 innings of completed baseball. All innings must be completed to afford home team (if losing) opportunity to bring game within 10 runs.

American League rules will be strictly enforced, with the "college slide rule" and the OPTION of an Extra Hitter (EH).

The EH is considered a Defensive player and can be used in any position on the field with the player he replaces then becoming the EH. Must stay in the same spot in the batting order.

You must complete the game with the same number of batters in which it started. An automatic out will be recorded in the vacated lineup spot due to injury/ejection. A forfeit will occur if there is an empty lineup spot due to lack of sufficient number of players. Games may begin with eight (8) players. At no time can a game hold fewer than 8 players.

There is no courtesy runner for the catcher with two outs, unless agreed upon prior to the game between both managers and the umpire. If there are only nine players, courtesy runner must be last batted out.

Umpires will not be entitled to full fee until there is one completed inning, including inclement weather. Travel fee for umpires in such situations is $30.

Any player who is ejected is subject to an automatic one game ban, and must leave the playing field and surrounding area immediately. All ejections will be reviewed by the league office to determine any additional suspension time (if deemed necessary).

Any manager who is ejected is subject to a minimum one-game suspension. Managers who are ejected in non egregious situations may manage the following game, pending an appeal and review to the league office.

Any team who fails to show for a league contest must compensate both umpires and pay field rental fee to the home team. A second failure to show may result in expulsion from the league.
